Built with the community in mind
For generations, Hindu families across the UK have quietly built businesses, supported local communities, created jobs, and contributed to society through hard work, trust, and service.
Many of these businesses grew through relationships, reputation, and word of mouth. They became part of mandirs, local high streets, cultural events, and family networks. Yet despite this contribution, there has never been a meaningful way to bring this wider business community together.
Why Ekta was created
There is no central place where Hindu-owned businesses across the UK are thoughtfully documented and connected.
Most existing directories rely on self-submitted listings, become outdated over time, or focus only on a few major cities. Many smaller family businesses, independent traders, and longstanding community enterprises are never represented at all.
Ekta was created to help change this in a respectful and practical way.
A community-focused network
Ekta is a verified Hindu business network built using publicly available registered business data, carefully organised to help members of the community discover and support one another.
The intention is simple.
To strengthen connection. To encourage collaboration. To help our community grow together.
Rather than being built around promotion or visibility alone, Ekta is rooted in the values many Hindu families already live by every day: trust, seva, unity, humility, and mutual support.
What Ekta stands for
Community and connection
Ekta was founded by someone connected to the Nottingham Hindu community, with close ties to local mandirs, community groups, and local businesses. The aim has always been to create something useful for the wider community, not simply another online directory.
Honest and verified information
Businesses listed on Ekta are sourced from or checked against the public Companies House register to help maintain accuracy and trust.
How the data is built
Building this directory has taken many months of research and careful organisation.
Rather than relying on businesses to find us, we began by researching hundreds of Hindu surnames from communities across the UK, including Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali, Rajasthani, South Indian, North Indian, and many other traditions. Using the public Companies House register, we identified active businesses where a director or officer shares one of these community surnames.
Each record is then carefully reviewed, organised by business sector, and linked with regional information to create a directory that is practical, accurate, and easy to explore.
The purpose is to help build a clearer picture of the contribution Hindu-owned businesses make across the United Kingdom. As the community grows and businesses engage with Ekta, the directory will continue to improve and become even more representative over time.
The intention is to help our community find one another, support one another, and grow together.
Supporting one another
Across Hindu tradition, prosperity has always been closely tied to dharma, responsibility, and community wellbeing. Supporting one another in business is an extension of those values.
Growing thoughtfully
Ekta begins in Nottingham, where its roots are, but the vision reaches much further. Hindu business communities exist across Leicester, Birmingham, London, Manchester, and many other towns and cities throughout the UK. Over time, Ekta hopes to reflect and connect these communities in a meaningful way.
The meaning behind the name
Ekta (एकता) means unity.
The name reflects the belief that communities become stronger when people feel connected to one another through shared values, mutual respect, and collective progress.
Looking ahead
There is still much work to do, and Ekta is only at the beginning of its journey.
The hope is that, with community support, Ekta grows into something genuinely useful for Hindu businesses, families, professionals, and future generations across the UK.
A small contribution towards bringing people together.
एकता 🙏
